Broccoli & Swiss Chard time
They aren't much to look at yet, but these are the broccoli & chard seedlings that I started in doors. Upon someone's advice I removed them from the jiffy pots because she suggest the plants will dry out too quickly. And I suspect she has a good point. Hopefully I didn't shock the little guys too much when I removed them from their happy jiffy new home in the square foot garden! :-)

The plan
I used excel to plot my plan. Color coded by when I'll plant. If it has been planted, I note the date and how many per SFG. The colored squares are SFG boxes, the Green ones denote containers.
SFG + a few other things. The beginning...
Carrot seeds were planted in mid-march in this 1/2 barrel. They are about 1" high today.
Bok Choy, Bell, & Hot Peppers:
Various Tomato plants - 1 plant/SFG:
Back row: Bell Peppers, 1x/SFG
2nd from back row: Bok Choy 4x/SFG; Hot Peppers 4x/SFG, Beets ~9-16/SFG
All remaining SFGs: Various Lettuce (romaine, mesculin), Spinach, with a couple SFGs awaiting Swiss Chard that will go in once the seedlings sprout indoors.
Strawberries. I'm going to add a few more plants today or tomorrow.
1/2 Barrel o' mint. Love having mint. Among other things, delicious in mixed drinks or tossed on fresh fruit!
Not pictured, one additional 2x4 SFG that has zucchini & corn plants, not yet sprouted.
And another view of my backyard. On the left side you may be able to tell that it slopes down, there are stairs that lead to the second tier (next picture)
This 2nd tier right now is the only place in my backyard that I have veggies in the ground. Everywhere else their are in Square Foot Gardens (SFGs) or pots. In the back are white onions I just planted this week. The bed all the way in the front contains carrot seeds that my 6 year old son, Jett, and I planted yesterday. In between is my first citrus tree and my wonderfully helpful boyfriend, Tony, has a couple rose bushes. I should take a moment to mention that by helpful, he's worked tirelessly to help me prep, weed, cut down large overgrown sun-blocking plants, so I could have my garden ready for planting.
There is one more tier after this one, but its not ready for public viewing :-)
And so it begins...
Let's start with me acknowledging how fortunate I know I am to have a yard like this in Central San Diego. For you gardeners, the right side of this picture faces North West, so its the sunniest place on the property and therefore the first place I start planting my full-sun needing veggies.
